Before the Civil War, the area was a rural community. While the mills and homes were destroyed, families continued to move to the area. In 1870, Roswell was a small town of four hundred residents, but that number grew to nearly a thousand by 1900. By the early twentieth century, Roswell had changed from a textile mill town to a small suburban community. In 1932, the city was incorporated into Fulton County, and after boll weevil invasions and the Great Depression, the town regenerated. By 1960, Roswell boasted several new industries, including the Southern Mills, which was rebuilt in 1947 and operated until 1975.
In addition to its booming business district, Roswell boasts a great school system and excellent employment opportunities. If you want to spend your vacation with your loved ones, check out one of the city's many annual festivals, or attend one of the many community events held in Roswell.
Bulloch Hall is another important historic building in the area. Major James Stephens Bulloch established the town in 1839 and later married a local woman named Mittiem. This marriage resulted in the birth of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th U.S. President. Today, the town strives to preserve the history and architectural significance of its historic buildings. You can even visit this house if you want to see the interior of the home.
Smith Plantation is another interesting place to visit in Roswell. This historic home was built in 1845 by a prominent family in the area. Its original owners had fled their crumbling plantations in the 1820s and started fresh on 300 acres of cotton farmland. The Smiths enjoyed the plantation during this important time in Georgia's history. They preserved heirlooms and passed them down to the descendants. There is a museum here to educate visitors about the family and its history.

It is no surprise that the town had a thriving cotton industry in the late 1800s.
